    Tom currently serves as the Chief Investment Officer for Big Idea Ventures (“BIV”), a global venture capital firm that operates a number of early-stage funds focused on food and agriculture technologies. He created the Generation Food Rural Partners fund, a USDA-licensed RBIC fund that partners with US universities to commercialize intellectual property in the areas of agriculture, food, and materials. He serves as a director of TerraSafe Materials, BioBondAdhesives, DisSolves, and Bayou Best Foods.

    Tom is considered an expert in: 

    • Corporate venture capital design and execution
    • Innovative investment fund models and deal structuring
    • Sourcing and connecting incumbent leading companies with novel technologies. 

      

    Prior to joining BIV, Tom was a Founding Partner and the Chief Financial Officer of Tyson Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Tyson Foods. While at Tyson, Tom led investments in Beyond Meat, Clear Labs, FoodLogiQ, Future Meat Technologies, Memphis Meats, MycoTechnology, New Wave Foods, Tovala, and BIV’s New Protein Fund.

    Prior to Tyson Foods, Tom held senior leadership positions at several New York-based private equity funds, including Advance Venture Partners, RedBird Capital Partners, and Palladium Equity Partners. Tom has over 20 years of experience in alternative asset management and finance.

     Tom began his career in public accounting and received a BS in Accountancy from Villanova University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (NY-inactive) and holds the Chartered Global Management Accountant designation from the AICPA. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and their four children.
